Aurum Wines

Aurum Wines' vineyards are located in the cool-climate region of Central Otago on the 45th Parallel and are some of the world's most southerly vineyards. The continental climate, with hot summer days and cool summer nights creates wine with intense juice flavors and strong acid structure. The name Aurum is Latin for gold and pays homage to the fact that the vineyards are near the site of a 19th century gold-dredging operation.

2006 Central Otago Pinot Gris
Bouquet: Intense tropical fruit, passion fruit, and melon.
Palate: Full-bodied, fruit-driven wine with a spicy, creamy mouthfeel, supported by a mineral backbone and a long, lingering aftertaste.
Serving Suggestions: Excellent as an aperitif but also gorgeous with raw oysters and all sea food dishes. Matches particularly well with goat cheese soufflé and creamy chicken dishes. Great with Asian dishes.

Reviews and Awards

"Outstanding Pinot Gris. Full bodied, yet elegantly flavored, crisp, and well balanced, with a long, persistent finish, tasting of pear, lemon peel. and passion fruit."
Ronn Wiegand, Restaurant Wine

Serving Suggestions: Lovely as an aperitif, but goes well with spicy fusion food, Asian food, and all seafood.

Reviews and Awards

"The Riesling tastes like a fine, nearly dry German Kabinett. It is delicate and fine in character (peach, grapefruit, jasmine), medium full bodied, and crisp on the finish."
Ronn Wiegand, Restaurant Wine

89 points "This new winery - founded in only 2002 - has turned out a wonderfully delicate off-dry Riesling. Floral hints accent lemon and green apple aromas, while the finish lingers elegantly, hitting some lime top notes." Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 2007

Top 10 New Zealand Rieslings " This wine from Lowburn was described by one judge as ‘appealingly feminine’. With is hints of lavender, it's a tad more restrained than some of the other offerings, and shows attractive limes and nectarines in a crisp, fragrant style."
Cuisine Magazine - May 2007, Issue 122
