Waimea Estates

Waimea Estates, the second largest vineyard/winery operation in the small Nelson region, combines the benefits from high sunshine hours and a cool climate with quality viticultural management and skilled winemaking to produce award-winning wine. The Bolitho family has been growing grapes on the Waimea Plains since 1993, and has been making wine under the Waimea label since 1997. The family is actively involved in the day-to-day aspects of the winery, with Trevor overseeing the operation and son Ben managing the vineyards. In the winery, winemaker Michael Brown uses gentle processing and innovative techniques to create elegant, fruit-driven wines.

90 Points "A youthful nose showing ripe passion fruit, limes and mineral notes with a whisper of musky character. The palate is juicy and succulent with round texture and weight on the midpalate. The crisp acidity balances the sweet fruit characters beautifully and leaves the palate clean and refreshing. At its best: now to 2008."
Wine Orbit, August 2007

"This wine is definitely one for the cellar as we believe that it has great potential. Already the wine has decent tropical fruit aromas and flavours combined with balanced acidity and a clean, crisp finish although the best is yet to come."
